Tell me if you’ve been here before…

You’re sitting  in front of your computer. WordPress is open. You’ve clicked to add a new post, and the cursor is blinking rhythmically, taunting you as your fingers hang motionless over your keyboard.

Yep, you’ve got nothing.

You have no idea what you are going to write about in your new blog post.

How did you end up here? How did you let this happen? Everyone else seems to be putting out content left and right with no problems. Why are YOU struggling to write one simple post?

Here’s what it feels like…

Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.

Ways to Generate Blog Post Ideas

In this week’s episode, I share 14 simple, yet effective, ways to generate blog post ideas for your next blog post.

1. Use questions and feedback from your audience

2. Remember the struggles you went through

3. Implement Google Alerts and let the content come to you

4. Attend Tweetchats and see what everyone is talking about

5. Read industry blogs

6. Dig into your podcasts to find ideas

7. Use tools like Hubspot’s blog topic generator

8. Explore your social media communities like those discussed in episode 24

9. Read and bookmark websites in your niche

10. Keep track of current events

11. Apply future trends to your particular area of focus

12. Think of something you completed or accomplished recently, and share your how-to or lessons learned

13. Check out Twitter trends

14. Visit websites that curate and present content from across the web, like Trendspottr and StumbleUpon

Each of these methods should be added to your arsenal for creating wonderful content for your audience. They are simple ways you can generate blog post ideas over and over.

5TIL

This week’s 5TIL (5 Things I Learned) includes:

1. A fancy little workout tool you can use at your desk (FitBolt.com) from my friend Jeff Page at Hectic-Dad.com.

2. A pending deal that would see Alibaba buy SnapChat for $10 billion…a year after everyone laughed when they turned down Facebook’s offer of $3 billion.

3. An awesome dad moment from Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News.

4. The news that Facebook may not be dead to teens after all.

5. A cool technology upgrade to the NFL that will track players during the games.

As always, if you have a cool story you’d love to share, send me a note at jeffstephens@crazydadlife.com and I’ll get it into the 5TIL.
