Facebook CommunitiesFacebook Communities…and why you should care

One of the most important aspects of the internet is the concept of community. It’s a key reason we enjoy the online world as much as we do. It’s also a major contributing factor to the growth and dominance of social networks like Facebook.

So, what does this mean to your online business or side project?

As an entrepreneur, you need to find other people who are passionate about the same things as you. Nothing is more valuable than finding a group of people with similar interests, desires, and passions. Once you have found this community of like minded individuals, you have not only found friends, colleagues, teachers, and students but you’ve also found potential customers.

Facebook communities provide a number of options when it comes to finding what fits with your message. The problem is, you have to find the right ones.

In this week’s episode…

I share some proven methods for finding Facebook communities that matter to you and your side business. You’ll learn how to approach finding Facebook communities as a participant and as a leader.

Here’s just one ninja tip I cover in this week’s episode. Use it when you are trying to find groups as a simple Facebook user.

  1. Go to your Facebook home by clicking the Home button
  2. Look along the left side of the page and you’ll see a list of all of your current groups
  3. Click on one of these groups – this will load the group’s home page
  4. On the group’s page, if you look along the right side, you’ll see an About box
  5. For the larger, more established, groups in Facebook you’ll see a number of Tags listed
  6. Click on one of the tags that you are interested in and watch as a treasure trove of  Facebook communities pop up with the same tag

This tip can save you a tremendous amount of time when looking for Facebook communities.

Other topics covered include:

  • Searching for groups by keyword
  • Searching for groups by hashtag and getting back more types of communities  than you thought
  • Particular differences between groups and fan pages, what that means for your brand, and what you should take into consideration when starting your own
  • How you can participate as a leader in other groups and fan pages, ultimately driving traffic back to your page and building your online authority

This week’s 5TIL (5 Things I Learned) covers:

  1. The ongoing battle against Twitter Bots (click here to check out the free tool where you can see if you are a Bot or Not)
  2. Smart shoes
  3. The death of Facebook gifts
  4. The emergence of the latest internet word that will make you cringe…”the usie”
  5. Technology that addresses date rape drugs

As usual, thank you for everything you have done for the Crazy Dad Life community. If you have something for the 5TIL, feel free to shoot me an email at jeffstephens@crazydadlife.com.
