Washington DC Snow and Crazy Morning Chaos

January 25, 2013 by Jeff Stephens Leave a Comment

Another typical crazy morning

Threat of Snow + DC + Kids = Guaranteed Chaos
Threat of Snow + DC + Kids = Guaranteed Chaos

Living in the Washington, DC metro area, you know full well that the forecast for snow throws a monkey wrench into any and everything going on.  You go into the day on your toes expecting the worst.  A case in point was the event known as Snowmegeddon.  My commute that day….8 hours….for what is usually a 40 minute commute.  That gives you a taste of how bad it can be.  So, this morning the forecast called for 1 whole inch (note sarcasm) this afternoon.  Which means the evening rush will be ridiculous.  A crazy morning doesn’t help.

Of course my daughter was running late for school.  No matter how much time you give them, they still push the limits and we end up in crazy hyper rush mode out the door.  Add to this the fact my wife’s car’s heater has gone south for the winter, I’m now chauffeuring a few more folks.  I brave the growing insanity at my daughter’s school, heading home to pick up the rest of the crew to drive them to their school when I get a text from the one I just dropped off.  ‘Daddy, I need brownies for 5th period today…I forgot’.  Great.  This is the world most Dads live in.  Being able to quickly think on your feet and modify plans as you go.  As I’m driving I’m determining, should I hit the store first, then pick up the wife and youngest?  Should I get them first, then hit the oldest’s school, then drop them off?  What does that do to their schedule?  Not to mention, what does that do to MY schedule?  I end up scooping up the two at home, hitting the grocery store, grabbing some brownies, swinging by the high school, making the drop, texting the updates, then hitting the road to drop the other two before heading to where I’m supposed to be.  Mission success again!   YES!
